Bloomin Onion III

Not having been to the outback steakhouse, I'll have to go on hte name alone .....
 
 
Take small white onions or pickling onions
peel, top & tail leaving the root end intact
slice into the onion from the shoot end about 2/3 of the way through repeat at various angles giving a star or asterisk pattern *
coat/spray with oil
roast 180*C about 1 - 1.5 hours (ie with the potatoes and pumpkin you'ld be doing for a roast chook or beef)
 
the onion will open out like a rose
