 2             slices   bacon -- chopped into 1/2
                       inch pieces
 1               pound   extra lean ground beef
 3          teaspoons  flour
 1                 cup   onion -- finely chopped
 1               small   green bell pepper -- minced
 2        tablespoons  brown sugar
 4                cups   tomato juice
 1               pound   red kidney beans
 1                 cup   water
 4             ounces   mushroom stems and pieces
 2          teaspoons  chili powder
    1/4      teaspoon  cayenne pepper
 1           teaspoon  flour
    1/4           cup   water
                       salt -- to taste
    1/2      teaspoon  fresh ground black pepper

  Fry bacon in a medium saucepan until it renders it's fat and
is crispy. Add the meat and brown lightly. Sprinkle in the flour.
Cook for five minutes before adding the onion and green pepper.
Cook until the onion and peppers are soft, about 12 minutes over
medium heat.
  Add the brown sugar, tomato juice, beans, water and mushrooms.
