1/2 cup karo syrup, light
2 1/2 cups sugar
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup water
2 egg whites
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup nuts, chopped
combine 1st 4 ingredients in a sauce pan.  cook over med heat stirring constantly
until sugar dissolves.  cook without stirring to firm ball stage.  just before syrup
reaches 248 degrees,  beat egg whites until stiff. pour half the syrup slowly over egg
whites, beating constantly. cook the remainder of syrup to crack stage. add syrup
slowly to first mixture beating constantly.  continue until mixtures holds shape.
add vanilla and nuts.  use wax paper to drop spoons full onto.
