Fish Tacos: An Introduction

fish.jpg (18326 bytes)Fish Tacos--It took me awhile to get used to those words together.  Of course, my first trip to Mexico cured me of the fish taco willies.  Actually, it makes a lot of sense to think that fish is a natural to go into a taco.  Tacos are about as Mexican as food gets, and Mexico is a coastal nation.  I've found a few recipes to get you started on your own fish taco adventure.

  1. Easy Fish Tacos--This is actually closer to fish nachos--but it's a great recipe if you aren't too confident in the kitchen yet.  It's easy, and not to "weird."
  2. Double Play Fish Taco--With avocados and salsa, this taco is beautiful and tasty.
  3. Grilled Fish Tacos--This recipe is best with catfish, which makes it perfect for the Midwesterner who cannot find a fish taco in any local restaurant.
  4. Beer Batter Tacos--Everything tastes good in beer batter!  If your tastes don't run towards exotic fish, this recipe is great with cornmeal in place of the flour and any white meat fish.
  5. Tacos with Fish and Potatoes--A different take on fish tacos that mixes some odd ingredients together.
  6. Fish Tacos with Citrus Salsa-This is an experience in eating!  The full recipe is a mouth watering meal with tacos, salsa, and cole slaw.  By the time you finish, you'll have six more meals planned with the different recipes on this page.
  7. Garlic Prawn Tacos--For the fish taco connoisseur.  I cannot wait to try this recipe.   Somebody pass the napkins, I think I'm drooling!

Looking for less commitment in your fish taco?  Taco Del Mar specializes in fish tacos, and they have a great burrito menu if you aren't up to the challenge.  On the West coast you can order from Rock'N Tacos right on the Internet (or take a walk on the beach and visit a taco shack).

What's your favorite fish taco recipe?  Where do you find them when you eat out?   Let me know!

Reader response has recommended  the Rubio's chain in Southern California, Old Mexico in Santa Rosa, CA and Baja Cafe in Florida.
