Sour Cream Plum Pie

Sour Cream Plum Pie

2 cups fresh plums, sliced
1/4 cup sugar
1 1/2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 1/2 cups sour cream
2 egg yolks, beaten
1/2 cup sifted flour
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 tsp ground cloves
1/2 cup sugar
2 tablespoons butter
1 (8") baked pie shell
2 egg whites
4 tablespoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/8 teasp. salt

Slice plums.  Toss with lemon juice and 1/4 cup sugar. Heat sour cream in top of
double boiler over hot water. Combine egg yolks,
flour, spices and 1/2 cup sugar in bowl. Slowly stir a little of the
hot sour cream into egg mixture. Add to remaining sour cream in double boiler.
Cook
until thick, stirring constantly about 10 minutes.  Stir in plums
and butter, cook 5 minutes longer. Cool.  Pour into pie
shell. Beat egg whites until foamy. Add sugar, a tablespoon at a time.
Beating well after each addition. Continue beating until very stiff. Add
vanilla and salt. Spread over pie filling. Bake at 325 F
20 minutes, or until meringue is lightly browned.
